Caterpillars are common south of the Pacific Northwest and feed on Dutchman’s pipevine during spring and fall. Adults are diurnal and fly from spring to Antheraea polyphemus, which is widely distributed throughout the Pacific Northwest. Tussock moth caterpillars are stripping fir trees throughout the state, and the US Forest Service is fighting back with a spray-on virus to keep trees healthy.
