To catch rare beetles, arm your Bug Net and hold A a good distance from the bug. Release A to spring your net and you’ll have a new insect buddy. Cut down most of the trees on your island, leaving two palm trees and two oak/fruit trees towards the front. For the most rare ones, bury a sea shell about 1-2 spaces from the tree and sneak up.
Using Mario pipes at the top and bottom of your beach was the fastest way for me to catch all the rare beetles. Bring your fishing rod around at all times and catch fins if they appear. Sharks are worth as much as the beetles.
To catch as many beetles as possible as fast as possible, go to the island past 7pm and rent the axe. Bugs available on Tortimer Island are available all-year round, as the island permanently remains at summer time regardless of the time of year. Don’t run, approach slowly by holding down A, and stop moving when the beetle stops moving. Different beetles have different sensitivities.

The movement for this game is slightly worse on the emulator. Tips for the island: cut down all the trees, bushes and flowers. The lesser selling bugs take up slots. My island has nothing on the grass. And using an emulator for a let’s play, like I am doing with Dragon Quest 9, I was testing multiplayer features, and my disappointing truth is emulators cannot connect to other save files, physical copies or emulators.
