I think the scariest depiction of hell was in the film What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams. It wasn’t a scary film, but heaven is depicted as basically your own universe where you can do anything you’d like and hell is depicted as your own universe where everything goes terrible for you. You also don’t realise you’re in hell. A personalised and lonely experience, where you don’t even realise you are in hell. You just… suffer.
For me, the scariest depiction of hell was in Jacob’s Ladder. The dismembered body parts, the madhouse, the woman nursing a doll, etc. The “vibrating head” image has become a staple (or should I say cliché) of every horror movie since. Event Horizon takes second place — though as I understand it, there was footage shot that was so disturbing it was decided to not include it in the finished product.
Event Horizon had the scariest hell. The brief flashes you saw of it depicted a realm of pure psychopathy. You step through the gate and you’re the worst version of yourself that you could ever imagine. Finding yourself within an instant trying to reach down your own throat to pull out your organs, while those nearby who have been there…. a while… already…. are engaging in weird, semi-sexual rituals with eachother’s maggot infested, perpetually living body parts. At every turn, cruel, twisted machinations that seem purpose built to cause maximum pain in human beings, like industrial factory farm equipment, houses confused, enraged, terrified people as they scream and vomit blood eternally. And all the while, you’re offered glimmers of visions of your loved ones being impaled right through, your most treasured friends and family brutally maimed and hewn to steaks. And there’s nothing you can do to stop it. EVER. Even if you somehow escape back to our realm, this version of Hell comes with you.

There is a very dark and gruesome description of hell in a graphic novel, i think it´s the poem Angels Claws. Everything that has ever given you joy and pleasure is in abundance. The catch is that you can’t feel any of it. Neither physically nor emotionally, because the good things like joy and pleasure are only on earth to lure you into hell. But as soon as you´re in it you experience that they don’t exist there.
they could’ve done so much more with this. Spoiler alert The idea starts out excellent, I love how it starts out so formal and then turns to a sort of madness, but after that it’s like the writers just didn’t know what to do. These demons are responsible for helling the whole human race and all they have is one room, where’s the rest? Where’s the hallway of rooms of people being processed, the other staff, the other chambers? It’s just this and Pinhead in his living room in a dinky house, and it seems like such a wasted idea
Awww, this article is for the Hellraiser FANS here ❤ Indeed it’s not terribly scary or gruesome… no flaying, no gratuitous severing of limbs or tongues or eyeballs…. but it’s full of poetic imagination. I love all 3 in the series (were there more?) Some of the dialogue had beautiful echoes of Shakespeare… HELL as a state of mind.
a bit confused by the negative comments… this is really interesting to me. everything about it was interesting. having a dinner of a story of… i dont want to be flagged by saying the word, mixed with tears of children..then thrown up into a tube clearly being used for something vile… fascinating depiction.
A common old concept for hell is that you live through your worst memories forever in hell. This would encourage you to live a better life. The sad part is people who’ve had a fucked up life, maybe raised in the wrong crowd or have no other options, can go to hell just for being alive. These kinds of hells also don’t account for people who’re good but have many regrets, maybe more so than ‘bad’ people or psychopaths who can’t feel regret.

I didn’t watch the article (don’t need to add to my already burgeoning level of nightmare fuel in my mind) – but – personally I think it’s hard to beat the concept of being given an immortal, indestructible body that is still basically human and being allowed to just float forever in the vacuum of space long after all the heat has gone out of the universe and not even the stars are shining any more.
In the lore of Hellraiser/The Hellbound Heart, there’s nothing related to Hell and the Cenobites aren’t demons. That’s something that the sequels post 2 failed to realize. Even the dimension we saw in the second movie wasn’t meant to be Hell, just some alternate dimension that the Cenobites are sent to.
This was one of those Hellraiser movies they made purely to retain the rights, but the funny thing was that it was actually kind of decent. Gary Tunicliffe (butchering the last name here), plays the auditor. He got his start doing the makeup and creature effects in the original films, and was actually quite good in this role.
I always figured hell was the place where anyone with a grudge against anyone else could consummate said grudge beyond the constraints of mortality and those who were forgiven would still have the sysiphean task of forgiving themselves while yet experiencing their entire lifetime through the senses of the rest of the universe, but hey, this has better sfx lol
The physical universe in which we live would be a sufficient hell. Hear me out. Imagine your immortal soul remains in the physical universe and has the capacity to feel pain but is unable to move or otherwise interact with the surroundings. As the Earth slowly decays it gets to experience all of the natural disasters, human-caused disasters, extinctions, etc. Eventually the sun expands to envelop the planet, vaporizing it. But the soul remains. Eventually the sun contracts again and the soul is left drifting in the frigid airless void. After trillions of years, even the solace provided by the dim lights of the stars is taken away as the expansion of space-time results in the heat death of the universe. And yet the soul endures…
I actually very much like this idea of hell, and if your life flashes before your eyes when you have a near-death experience, I’d also like to think people who’ve led awful lives experience something similar to this. All the things they did to other people, they experience themselves. It’s kinda comforting.
The way he closes his razor was perfect. The mannerisms he has are fantastically otherworldly. I really love the auditor and the assessor and think they should have made a movie solely about them whether in or out of the Hellraiser universe. The mix doesn’t land, but fuuuuuck I keep perusal the scenes with them in it! If the auditor (the writer of the script and director) had told a story without the lament configuration awkwardly replaced in the present by… a weird ass note that no sane person would ever follow up on), it would be a siiiick horror movie. Dying and ending up face to face with him…
Scariest depiction of hell ive seen was in the film “cruel and unusual” where everyday you relive the events leading up to your death, and you have full knowledge and cognition of it, but cant change the events. when you do try to change things, itll just loop you back instantly and incessantly to the moment you tried changing things, so you can never change your outcome and when you do die in those events it just starts all over and you’re stuck reliving that death forever until the end of time and youre fully aware of the events that are going to play out, and what you have to do and that youre stuck in a loop and theres no escape.
I will tell you which was the scariest scene from hell i ever see in my life, it was some 3 or 4 years ago when i was 23, at the Theater with my Friend, full of people, and I’m always cool with the supernatural, i always believe on it and watched ghost and devil articles on youtube, but that movie was creepy as hack, i dont know the name of it but i describe, it was one creature like a man body, nearly, the head was not human but some weird form of Cown or Bufalo from Hell Skull Bone, his body in Blood, he where walking around in an big room full of blood, sloowly like a Satanic Devil God from Hell, Like he were very Angry and had all the power to destroy anything that he wanted to destroy so, the room was full of people running with fear but people sudenly paralise and this devil started approaching people and ending them into pieces by simple touching them one by one, well that was it, i nearly died of fear, also Outlast 2, this game is the scariest Ever, Also Playable Teaser for PS4 and for Movie name i remenber Hereditary were Absolutely one of the most creepy movies i watch.
I love the Hellraiser franchize, in a very specific way, but I do. It’s like every new movie they release, creators try to make it more and more gory, controversial and obscene and each time they probably believe that what they just made would be a new standard of gore horrors. Little they know that they have already gone bananas back in vhs era and never came back. What they do now is just ridiculous, not funny, not scary, not digusting, just ridiculous. I actually admire the fact that in Hellraiser Judgement they managed to collect so many scenes that under normal circumstances would be considered disgusting or maybe even scary but here due to nonexistent storyline, chaotic montage and terribly bad acting they are simply stripped off any emotional load.
I image that real hell would be the last thing you have ever experienced before death on continuous repeat forever. So imagine someone drowning for example, his hell would be the last conscious experience of drowning on repeat. If you think about it, we live in a virtual environment produced by our brains. When something outside of the virtual environment happens, like you burn yourself, your brain creates a representation of that event in the virtual space allowing you to become aware of it. Since you need something on the outside of the virtual space to process and create representations in the virtual space, you cant perceive nonexistence. You can only feel existence. so whatever the last thing you were conscious of before death will be the final experience you are left with and subjectively it will feel like an eternity since there is no longer a brain feeding updates to the virtual space that your awareness resides in. its like being in an online game with players in it, and you lose the wifi connection, so your game just hangs there frozen in time waiting on an update from the server that will never come.
If there was a Haunted Attraction every hollowen season called “Factory of Hell” or something in your region, this is what they would put on the tv set while you waited to go on this 15 min walk through after the staff went over the safety rules with horror puns intended.. you’re not so much scared or creeped out than you are amused.
The worst depiction of hell I’ve ever seen is that Obama promotional article starring Andy Griffith and Opie, all grown up and describing how things have changed in Mayberry and how we need new leadership. Oh, yeah, Fonzie shows up in it as well. Absolutely chilling. Or that article of elementary school children forced to do that Barack Hussein Obama mmm mmmm mmm chant. That was hellish too.
Gross ass dumb movies think hell is just some sort of place you know you’re in. Hell is much more than that, hell is a suffering that you don’t even know you’re in. It isn’t physical pain or scary looking demons. It’s the worse version of you, and you have to take a backseat to perusal your own hands destroy everything you’re built and loved.
I know the hell-as-bureaucratic-nightmare trope has been around since at least the late ’70s with the end of “Beetlejuice.” But if you go much further back, you’ll see the opposite. For example, in Powell and Pressburger’s “A Matter of Life and Death” (US title, “Stairway to Heaven,” which sounds like an Astaire & Rogers musical comedy) they depict the anteroom to heaven as a gigantic clerical office at the top of the titular stairway. When one character complains how boring it must be spending all eternity as a clerk, an official comments “some people would think it heaven to be a clerk!” At that point the camera lights on one of the airmen being processed in (played by David Attenborough) gazing wistfully down onto the endless rows of files and processing desks.
In terms of the Hell that Clive created it was about sadomasochism, but it also had laws and rules that they must follow. I see the character that is the Auditor as a good addition, cause when you think about it, not only is it about being consumed by pleasure. It’s also about punishing the true wicked, with how the Leviathan is, it want’s a perfect world and sounds like it would be hell but the opposite. It want’s law and order, punish the wicked and the ones that open the box that are wicked or have done a lot of crimes, whether it be fighting for their own country is a sin. Like what happened to Elliot Spencer, I fought for his country but at the same time caused a great sin, which was killing other people(Enemies, in the trenches). The purpose was punishing the true evil but it turned into sadomasochism, where the curious that have sin are tortured and turned into cenobites. Hence the whole phrase “We will tare your soul apart”, it’s like being reborn but also tortured because of what you have to deal with in hell. There is so much lore that isn’t even funny. I know some people will say I’m wrong, I’m not perfectly spot on, in terms of a lot of things.
The first half of the movie is actually brilliant and so much better then the whole remake (which was just bland and boring). Here they tried something new, telling something different, expanding the lore. Sadly they had no new or consequent ideas for the second half of the movie, this was just a re:telling of that corrupt police/detective story we already knew since Hellraiser Inferno. But because of the first half of the movie it’s very enjoyable!
Jesus came to save sinners, not the righteous. It doesn;t matter what you’ve done, there is redemption for you in Christ. Ask him to your heart and into your life and ask him to forgive you and he will. The day of God’s judgment is coming and those who are not covered in the blood of Jesus will be accountable for their sins against God. Jesus took your place in sin and death on the cross. Let him save you and do not face that judgement by yourself.

This isnt Hell, Hell is (all happened since Oct ’23) loosing your car and driving licence, then your girlfriend of 12 years dumps you so you loose here and your house, then your 5 y/o dog gets ill out of the blue and dies 2 days later, then you loose your job, which has been the only thing that was keeping you going. Did i mention ive been a functioning heroin addict for 26 years? I’d go kill myself but it wouldnt be fair on my parents and sister having to deal with it, they have delt with my selfish bullshit for long enough. Oh, and for the past 2 week I’ve noticed more and more blood on the toilet paper after I go to the toilet. I hope it’s due to the amount of cheap booze I’ve been drinking recently, but with my luck it’s probably prostate cancer.
I seen this man in my dreams without ever seeing this film my dream was on a dark rock and me and my relatives were in rows sat down in chains and there were these bald men in hoods tormenting us making us do work and crawl through cages. There were no fire it was more like a dark atmosphere on another planet and the floor was like black gravel there was endless rows of us
The starkness of the room reminds me of the windowless, bare concrete room with one light bulb hanging down from the ceiling by a cord that we were marched into in Marine boot in ’75 on Parris island to get our first haircut when the barber shop was backed up with platoons of recruits waiting for their next haircuts…two 55 gallon drums were under the light bulb with two black barbers with sheers in their hands with the Drill Instructors yelling, Well fucking hurry up, if you have any moles you better put a fucking finger on it our it’ll be shaved off, as we bent over the metal drum and got roughly sheered.
