The Earth Beetle and the Heaven Beetle are collectively known as “The Geode Beetles of Heaven and Earth”, which may imply their gem type is related to geodes. The Earth Beetle, a former corrupted gem, made her debut in the episode “Giant Woman” and now lives within Little Homeworld with her wife Earth Beetle. They have identical gemstones on their backs but differ in body color, with the Earth Beetle’s being black and gray.
There are no gems referred to as “heaven or earth beetle irl”. They are likely either Chrysoprase or Mica, and come in a range of turquoise to green. They can have spots of gold (like the Heaven Beetle) or black (like the Earth Beetle). The Earth Beetle was a corrupted gem that first appeared in the episode “Giant Woman”. Garnet confirmed their identity as corrupted gems, and their personal opinion is that they are Moldavite because they are small, green, and represent “heaven” and “earth”.
The Desert Glass is the first corrupted gem that is shown bubbled without being poofed first. It comes in a range of turquoise to green and can have spots of gold. The Sky Spire doesn’t seem to have any era one gem tech, and they have identical gems, corrupted forms, and seem completely tame. One of them even has a tiny little home with a TV and bongos.
Garnet still calls them heaven and earth beetles in the future, but Ame and Steven call them Bixbite and Snowflake.

📹 The Geode Beetles of Heaven and Earth Are The Smartest Gem Cut!? – Steven Universe Corruption Theory
Let’s discuss two of the smartest gems in all of Steven Universe! What role did they serve on Homeworld, and what makes them so …
What Is Heaven And Earth Beetle Jewelry?
The Heaven and Earth beetles are depicted as geode beetles, resembling the real-life practice of insect jewelry. Both of these beetles are Clear Quartzes, previously corrupted Gems, appearing in the episode "Giant Woman." The Earth Beetle, discovered by Garnet while Steven, Pearl, and Amethyst searched for the Heaven Beetle at the Sky Spire, is a former Corrupted Gem. The two beetles possess identical gemstone shapes resembling faceted diamonds on their backs, yet they exhibit differences in body color, with the Heaven Beetle showcasing green and yellow hues and the Earth Beetle appearing more green.
While the specific gem types for these beetles remain speculative, possibilities include prehnite, celestine, chrysoprase, or mica, fitting their color schemes. After the Era 1 Ball, Heaven Beetle joined Earth Beetle within Little Homeworld. These Gems display attributes such as spots of gold (Heaven) and black (Earth).
The Gems have been known since season one, and despite being uncorrupted, they retain the "beetle" designation. The leader of the Gems indicates the need to retrieve them, prompting a reaction from Amethyst and Pearl, illustrating the dynamics within the group. Ultimately, the Heaven and Earth Beetles represent the unique aspect of Gems in the series, merging both their corrupted origins and their current forms.
What Is The Difference Between Heaven And Earth Beetles?
In the episode "Giant Woman," the Heaven and Earth Beetles are intriguing Gem characters. Despite having identical gemstones on their backs, they display distinct body colors; the Heaven Beetle sports green and yellow hues, while the Earth Beetle is black and gray. Both possess the characteristics of Clear Quartzes, indicated by their designation as Geode Beetles of Heaven and Earth, as most geodes primarily feature clear quartz crystals.
These Beetles emerge from a terrarium to enjoy the restorative waters of Rose's Fountain, facilitated by Steven and the Diamonds, remaining uncorrupted throughout. The Earth Beetle even affectionately kisses the Heaven Beetle.
Their identity raises questions, as their appearance suggests they may be corrupted gem creatures contrary to their gentle demeanor. They symbolize two halves of a whole, possibly linked to the prehnite gemstone due to their colors. Originally, the intention behind their design may have diverged from the final portrayal, as they were initially conceived as caretakers of their realms, albeit now seemingly benign. They share identical gems and corrupted forms, yielding ambiguity about their nature.
With unique traits—a home equipped with a TV and bongos—the Heaven Beetle emphasizes a whimsical aspect to the relationship between the two. Their pairing invites inquiries about their purpose and the symbolism of their coexistence. Hence, the Heaven and Earth Beetles collectively embody contrasting yet harmonious themes within the narrative.
Are The Geode Beetles Of Heaven And Earth Clear Quartzes?
The "Geode Beetles of Heaven and Earth" from the episode "Giant Woman" in Steven Universe are theorized to be Clear Quartz gems. These beetles form a unique pair, each adorned with identical clear quartz gemstones on their backs but differing in body coloration—the Heaven Beetle exhibits green and yellow hues, while the Earth Beetle displays black and gray tones. This color variation is likely a result of their reforming process after corruption.
Clear quartz, commonly found in geodes, hints at their designation as "Geode Beetles," suggesting their gem type is related to geodes, although this remains unconfirmed. Despite being corrupted gems, both beetles are notably peaceful, distinguishing them from other corrupted gems that typically become hostile. They retain some of their original characteristics, unlike other corrupted gems which often transform into Snow Monsters.
The Heaven Beetle resides in a castle-like structure, possibly the sky spire, indicating a pre-corruption home that aligns with its serene nature. The stability and tranquility of these beetles imply that not all corrupted gems lose their essence entirely; some, like the Geode Beetles, maintain a harmonious existence. This peaceful coexistence contrasts with the usual destructive nature of corruption in gems, highlighting their unique status.
Clear quartz, specifically chalcedony quartz, is considered highly valuable and spiritually significant for its properties to amplify, clarify, and balance one's being. This reinforces the importance of the Geode Beetles within the Steven Universe lore. Their presence in the Burning Room suggests a pivotal role, and their potential return could further explore their character and significance.
Overall, the Geode Beetles of Heaven and Earth represent a fascinating aspect of gem lore in Steven Universe, embodying themes of redemption, balance, and the enduring nature of one's core attributes despite adversity.
What Abilities Does Heaven Beetle Have?
The Heaven Beetle possesses standard Gem abilities such as bubbling, shapeshifting, fusion, regeneration, agelessness, gravity shifting, photokinesis, gem storage, as well as superhuman strength and durability. It was introduced in the episode "Giant Woman" and later undergoes uncorruption in "Change Your Mind." The Heaven Beetle shares a close, presumably romantic, relationship with the Earth Beetle, with both being identified as Clear Quartzes, often linked to geodes that mostly contain clear quartz crystals.
In their debut episode, the Heaven Beetle demonstrates creativity by crafting miniature everyday items, hinting at an inventive nature. The Heaven Beetle's gemstone is located on its back, and both beetles can be depicted in a range of turquoise to green hues, with the Heaven Beetle showcasing golden spots. During their search for the Heaven Beetle, Pearl, Steven, and Amethyst encounter the corrupted Big Bird gem.
The Heaven Beetle has a charming tiny home, complete with a TV and bongos, suggesting a whimsical aspect to its character. Its abilities indicate it's a powerful gem despite its corrupted state, with notable telekinetic powers and friendly demeanor. Overall, the Heaven Beetle's gentle yet strong personality, alongside its close bond with the Earth Beetle, enriches its character narrative across the series.
Are Heaven Beetles And Earth Beetle Corrupted Gems?
The Heaven Beetle and Earth Beetle are distinctive Corrupted Gems within the Steven Universe series, confirmed by Matt Burnett. Both beetles possess identical gemstones, suggesting they belong to the same Gem type, potentially linked to geodes. Their designs are inspired by real-life live insect jewelry, emphasizing their unique aesthetic among Gems. Unlike typical Corrupted Gems, which often appear monstrous and destructive due to the Diamonds' influence, the Heaven and Earth Beetles exhibit a more peaceful and tame existence.
These beetles were healed at Rose's Fountain when Steven and the Diamonds combined their powers, marking a significant moment of restoration. Following their healing, the Earth Beetle kissed Steven on the cheek, and both were uplifted as Ocean Jasper emerged from the healing waters. This event highlights their transition from corrupted states to a harmonious existence.
Collectively known as "The Geode Beetles of Heaven and Earth," their shared gemstone and similar corrupted forms indicate they might be the same Gem type. Garnet refers to them as Geodes, leading to theories that they possess a unique nature—perhaps not typical Gems but entities resembling Gems that reveal their true nature only when shattered. Their ability to live comfortably with amenities like TVs and bongos further distinguishes them from other Corrupted Gems, showcasing their capacity for a non-destructive life.
Residing in Little Homeworld alongside other characters like Peridot, Lapis, and Bismuth, the Heaven and Earth Beetles symbolize the possibility of redemption and peaceful coexistence among Gems. They own a castle and maintain serene lives, contrasting the usual antagonistic role of Corrupted Gems. Their presence underscores a broader theme within the series: the potential for change and healing, even among those initially perceived as threats. The Heaven and Earth Beetles thus represent hope and the enduring possibility of harmony within the Gem society.
📹 Steven Universe Speculation: The Geode Beetles of Heaven and Earth
Today we tackle the mysterious Geode Beetles of Heaven and Earth. What’s the deal with these things? We saw them in Giant …
Ok, so making articlegames in itself is amazing, but you glossed over the fact that she literally recreated and manipulated organic life, to not only be her size, but also long lasting, as the cactus is the same, and the furn has only just started growing. This possibly even means that this gem is the one that would figure out how to grow things in certain conditions, just like how Gems grow in Kindergartens!
Wow. Okay. Out of every SU theorist on YouTube you make the most sense. You come up with things I would have NEVER thought of and it’s clear that you genuinely care about your fans as well as the fans of Steven Universe. You pay so much attention to so many details in the show and even when your theories aren’t correct they’re based on logic and evidence and are SO entertaining. I love your content, you are AWESOME. Have an amazing day, SliceofOtaku !!
They may make a comeback, or they may not. A lot of Steven Universe’s humour is kind of like that… like, remember that weird black light poster in Together Breakfast that screamed when Garnet burned it? What the heck was that? Why was it inhabiting a poster from the ’70s? Why was it more powerful when it transferred to waffles? How did all the other gems already know and accept that’s the way things were with this particular kind of being? I doubt we’ll ever know and that sort of makes it funnier.
Maybe the geode beetles of heaven and earth were once undescribably powerful gems that could do many things gems couldn’t and one important one: learn, maybe the heaven beetle had the similar ability to sapphires looking into the future and liking the style making it’s home from what it saw, and they could of also used to terraform like lapses because gem home world colony’s are hollow and lapses couldn’t do that good enough so the beetles of earth and heaven would get the job done, and maybe the reason they look how they look is a common answer”corruption”
I’m so glad you discussed this. When the episode first aired, I was really confused about the beetles and then I was distracted by Opal being the introduction to fusion. I also thought the beetles were lumped with the “Gem Artifact era”, and since Rebecca Sugar said she discarded that idea and pointed the show in a new direction, I thought we were meant to forget about them. I didn’t even realize they were corrupted gems!
When steven temporarily removed some corruption from the centipeedle, she could communicate through writing that only the crystal gems could read. Also, the corrupted gem peridot was chasing in a different episode managed to avoid all of her traps. Corruption makes them mentally distressed, but not mentally unstable to the point they stop thinking and acting like themselves, unlike most people think.
I looked up gems that commonly appear in geodes and one that caught my eye was Celestine, which can be somewhat blue. It’s referenced as being used in communication (especially in connection with divinity), respect, serenity, and awareness. I feel like it could be considered as another possibility for the beetles’ gems.
I’ve been waiting for a good analysis article on the heaven beetles omg! I didn’t even think of this. The idea they built that place themselves (I sorta thought they were these Legendary gems and other people built it for them because they’re Heavenly or whatever…) is really intriguing as to what kind of gems they are!!
I actually thought about these beetles the other day! The only thing that I could think of is how Peridot said, “My size is indicative of my rarity and importance!” So using that tiny bit of information, we can easily assume that these beetles are SUPER IMPORTANT and rare. If that’s the case, I think that the beetles could potentially be the gem called Grandidierite! It is one of the rarest stones on Earth and they are usually cut very small. That could explain why their gems are so small, why their corruption form is small (a beetle? Just check out the myths of beetles/scarabs and that’ll explain a lot lol) AND why they can still maintain a high level of consciousness. This show man haha
Truth be told, I forgot any mention of geodes. Course I also came up with my own Geode OC a while ago. She was a dark-grey skinned girl with medium length black hair and an Innie-Geode left eye that stretched back into her skull with a hole in the back left area of her skull. Because I saw geodes as being unstable gems due to their crystals being in clusters, I had her have a stumped left arm at the elbow. She would utilize a modified limb enhancer as a replacement. In combat, she would take a piece of a sharded gem and insert it into the hole in the back of her head. Doing so would regrow the arm’s missing segment with the abilities and weapon of the sharded gem. She could also adjust the fingers of the limb enhancer to turn it into a buzz saw that could cut gems without truly shattering them. The idea I had for her had her as a surgeon. Upon finding gem shards that corresponded/belonged to the same type, she, along side her bismuth who an obsidian like skin, would grow bodies for these gem shards. I even had a scene idea where yellow diamond would see them and refer to them as filthy corrupted clods, to which Geo would tilt her head, rev up her saw arm and say “We are more than corrupted clods, we are geode”.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought about this. The fact that they had a proper title never really resonated until me until later, but I did keep revisiting the fact that they weren’t poofed. They were bubbled respectfully and gently, as if they were a higher being. And I mean ethereal, deity high, not just diamond authority higher.
Corruption happened 6000 years before current events, when human life was very basic. Buddy budwick found Beach City a couple hundred years before the current events, except during his travels across the world he found the Heaven Beetle’s home which didn’t have the game system or electricity as it hadn’t been invented yet. When Steven checks it during modern day it does have electricity which makes you assume the beetles adapted, but that doesn’t make sense… since they would have been corrupted 6000 years prior. Unless they’re so smart even in their corrupted state they could survive and adapt.
3:40 But what if heaven beetle just made all the items in the room for her own amusement? Maybe she doesn’t need any electrical circuits and just powers everything with her own power? But then also, what if she just went out and bought the things, and was able to power them on her own? Like a mix of assimilation and usage of her own power?
Nice job spotting all the details. perusal the episode, Steven says, “..and little beetle baby book” (so specific). Unless the Heaven and Earth beetles were meant to repopulate, I think HB is just mimicking humans much in the way that other corrupted gems mimic wild animals we’d recognize on Earth. And I can’t really see HB traveling too far from that remote mountain. Maybe she interacted with humans before becoming corrupted. If they were Crystal Gems, maybe they were wanting to mingle with humans like Rose if not doing so with Rose. Anyway, love your articles.
I think the size and corruption fits perfectly together. See when the diamonds used their corruption beam thing, maybe the two gems (beetles) were evacuating, rushed to get away and did that size thing like in the ruby ship, screwed with their size then got corrupted because maybe they were too late? Idk
Something you brought up in a previous article that really sparked my interest was when you pointed out that Rose Quartz’s powers are all related to organic life… She can grow and control plants, she can very effectively heal non-gem creatures (indicating that she’s not meant to JUST be a healer of gems), I think it’s pretty safe to say that her ability to create Steven was related to her organic powers (and no other gems would be able to do that) and Steven’s ability to fuse with humans is also probably relevant to Rose Quartz’s specific, organic powers… and then we see that Steven also has the powers of possessing other conscious organic creatures and dreamwalking… and it’s so weird that Rose Quartz (and Steven, through use of her gem) has all these powers that relate to and affect the body, mind, and emotions of organic creatures… but what’s even weirder is that Rose Quartzes are the quartz class belonging to Pink Diamond’s court, so maybe we could conclude that Pink Diamond (and the gems in her order) is meant to be sort of an ambassador and great colonizer for when homeworld researches and takes over other worlds. We see from the murals that her only colony was earth though, which kinda adds another interesting layer. And when you consider that she was in charge of the takeover of earth, and all the gem artifacts and structures and all the gems sent to and made on earth (including these beetles, whatever their original form may have been) were originally planned and put there by her and her court, i dunno.
I agree with this theory alot. I would also like to point out that in the episode where the gems and Steven where in the ruby ship and the gems where smooshed down because of gravity then Steven tried to change the ships settings the 3 settings that where used seemed to be Quarts Soldier, Diamond and the last one I speculate to be uncorrupted geog beetles as we have never seen a gem other then them thats so small. The pictures on the screen just looked like tiny gems.
This is a bit off topic but I noticed something about the Diamonds that I don’t know if you noticed. The insignia of the diamonds has White at the top, Yellow and Blue in the middle, and Pink at the bottom. But you’ll notice that their gem placement matches this. White Diamond’s gem is placed highest on her forehead, Blue and Yellow’s gems are placed on their chest, and Pink’s gem is placed on her belly, lower than all the others. This could attribute to their rank amongst one another. I just found this interesting.
I’ve had thought of all the past gems and temples, and at first it seemed like an inside joke from the Crewniverse. But after the Fryboy episode in where they demonstrate how the broken pieces of gems work I stopped being laid back and started to think of to what extent the Crewniverse had the story developed.
Not sure if someone ever thought about it, but all the places presented in the “Buddy’s Book” are showed in the way Steven imagined them being like back then. So, that’s basically why all the modern stuff is not there in the Geode Beetle’s house, when “Buddy” is looking inside of it. Welp, that’s what I think about it
An excellent analysis, I never thought of half this stuff; I just thought the Crewniverse just made a cute little home for the Beetle for fun. To me, the weirdest thing about the room is the plants sitting in the window. One in a tiny little pot and the other looks like a plucked flower put in a jar of water. I wonder how the plant is still so tiny since it was there since Buddy Budwick recorded it in his book.
My thought is that since the beetles are non-hostile and appear to live in a very human bedroom, perhaps they were affected differently by corruption and can still shape-shift into humanoid form. It seems strange that the electronics were added after Buddy’s Book, implying that the beetles not only have a desire for them but also have the ability to use a controller (which would require fingers and dexterity). It could also be that the beetles shapeshifted into beetles to hide their uncorrupted forms from the Crystal Gens, possibly still holding Homeworld sentiments, essentially pleading insanity rather than facing interrogation by rebels.
Personally I think that Garnet foresaw that corrupted gems would find and attack the Beetles, and that the quest to find them was to save them. This episode back being when the show was more “magical” and less “space”, it’s easy to forget the fact that they went to that much detail in the Beetle’s room (especially if, like me, you were trying to forget this episode because of the vore part) but it is very strange, looking back at it. The fact these are all modern human comforts means this gem must have made those either before humans did (which makes no sense) OR made them as a corrupted gem, which might make even less sense…
Slice! I just thought I’d bring this up because this article is about the heaven and all that. I’m not really sure which book I have but it’s one of the Steven Universe Art and Origins book. On page112 of the book it has a drawing of the Earth beetle! It says “Steven learns to control his healing powers and manages to heal the Earth (and Heaven?) Beetle who turn out to be very tiny gems. She is very quiet but very quick and observant.” For this I’m not sure if it’s official or if it’s just practice but there’s a ton of more interesting things on the pages like (art practice/concept?) gem designs and concept art for homeworld gem weapons/tools. I would send a picture of it but I’m not sure how I can do that so I guess you could check Google if you don’t actually believe me lol (btw you should really get the books, they are amazing!)
this is a super cool theory and all and honestly i do agree with the idea that the heaven and earth beetles are definitely special as far as their behaviors as corrupted gems go, but i feel like since its clear the gems were looking out for them a simpler possibility is one of the gems created what amounts to little beetle doll houses for what i agree were gems they deeply respected. not to say the beetles couldnt use or interact with those items in way that show more advanced intelligence than any other corrupted gem, buuuut.. i just think it’s a little odd that they’d mirror all these human household things despite being in what seems to be very remote locations. i feel like its more likely that someone else made and maintained these little homes for them.
A corrupted gem I found interesting is the desert glass from Steven’s lion seeing how despite it being a corrupted gem doesn’t seem to carry a form that shows it’s alive since it’s just a gem on a pillow and was even described by the crewniverse that the pillow is it’s physical form. So what I wan’t to know is if Steven were to discover how to fully heal corrupted gems and managed to heal the desert glass what would it’s real appearance look like? Gems like this really make you wonder what is it that determines how these gems will look like when corrupted. Possible could be White Diamonds part in corruption or even Yellow Diamond since yellow’s powers affect the gems body while Blue affects their emotion’s and mindset and white may affect how the body is changed and even how their memories are altered.
I’m starting to wonder if the beetles are misnamed. They seem to be more like nodules. A geode is a round rock which contains a hollow cavity lined with crystals. Rocks which are completely filled with small compact crystal formations such as agate or jasper are called nodules. The only difference between a geode and a nodule is that a geode has a hollow cavity, and a nodule is solid. The beetles look very solid in their forms.
omg same, the Sponge Bob roach with the little patty.. The heaven beetle being the smartest gem and as you noticed the diamond shaped gem and that they’re respectively one yellow and the other some sort of greyish blue, they must have been high rank gems in homeworld society, what if at least one beetle is part of Fluorite? her being an “ancient” wise gem and for a six gem fusion she’s not that large, may be because she’s made of itty bitty tiny gems like H.B. Also, in the giant woman ep, did you noticed the bird like corrupted gem who ate Steven and Steven Jr? it had gems bubbled in her insides, and was eager to eat Steven and H.B, could it be a canival gem in her attempt to be whole and to regain sanity?. Man I love your articles, please Keep It Up.
I’ve always thought it was funny how some corrupted gems feel the need to eat, like Centipeetle, and the monster from “Bubble Buddies”. The only explanation I could think for that is that corruption may cause gems to lose the ability to create their own energy, so they resort to food. I don’t actually have any evidence to back it up, though.
they could have been extremely small gems before they were corrupted! i’m probably wrong, but on the Roaming Eye on their way to get greg back after blue diamond stole him, they kept switching the gem’s sizes to actual gem sizes (ruby, diamond, etc, ) but one form they switched to was a very tiny, small form. which is the size of some other gem, most likely the beetles, maybe there are others like them, not corrupted? sorry for the long comment, im probably not even right
I have deduced a theory on what gem HB is. If you look at the abrviation of H.B. on the bag, you can assume that the actual gem goes by that. Going from that, it also has to be golden, yellow, even green. Now a simple search of H gems brings up a few but only one is yellow and fits these standards. A Heliodor Beryl gem. It usually just goes by Heliodor but it is a type of Beryl gem and tends to lend to these types of colours. Just a fan theory of mine though. Idk if anyone touched on this or if I’m the first.
I think the corrupted gems from season 1 and 2 were just to carry the story on because we don’t ever hear or see them again. heaven beetle, corrupted snow gem, the gem that in the wall at the lighthouse that scared Ronaldo. what were there powers and where did they fit in in gem society. how many different kinds of gems are there and do they all have there own set of abilities or names. season 3 to now all gems have real life names. some of the episodes in season one and two don’t even appear to be Canon or relevant anymore as the story goes on
Finally, someone else who’s been thinking about this! 1:06 I’m going to have to stop you there, please go to rewatch adventurous and like distortion it’s heavily implied the actual functioning members of can actually be that small given the main gem cast is transformed into a mouse sized morphotype. …wwait you’re not claiming their gym artifacts? Oh wait never mind.
ok but also season one was a wild time- they didn’t have any lore pinned down yet so they were just kind of made up stuff lol- the beetles kind of land with the evil scroll, crystal heart, and the sand cushion thingy on the list of one-off season one things that the crewniverse eventually has to find an explanation for now like they did with the whole sea spire thing…sorta.
Most geodes are formed from layers of chalcedony (cryptocrystalline quartz) included with other minerals. The most common is macrocrystalline quartz. Considering their gems are relatively white/clear coloured with only a slight green tinge, I’d wager they’re simple chalcedony. In the SU series, Quartz are soldiers but some—like Agates—are “terror” tacticians, and command the soldiers beneath them. Even Rose Quartz was intelligent enough to question her duties and spark a several millennia-long rebellion against their Homeworld. I’d say this lends credence to the Geode “Beetles” intelligence.
To address your comment on how the Beatles would have gotten around in their non-corrupted gem forms: probably wings. Their beetle forms make them appear to belong to the rhinoceros beetle family, and many of them are known to be able to fly so it’s likely that their non-corrupted gem form is similar to that of Aquamarine.
if they weren’t hostile maybe the choose those forms to run away and they stayed that way so they could hide, hence the little hideout with “a little beetle bed” and such. also maybe the moon goddess statue is a trapped gem (or gems if the one being help and the bottom are seprate) like lapis and the mirror?
I notice one thing very odd. The cactus, buddy budwick happened ages ago before steven’s birth and the cactus on the window sill already existed at the time. So any speculations regarding that because if the cactus was shrunken down, it’d still be organic but when steven arrived, the cactus didn’t withered, grow or even change color.
Nice analysis. I’ve just been writing off some of the weirdness of the first several episodes as the show just getting it’s feet under it, but you’ve made me reconsider. Perhaps we will see an explanation for these two in the future. I’m especially impressed with the observation of the size reduction on the ship. Another thing I’ve written off from an early episode is the demonic looking scroll from Together Breakfast. Is it Homeworld tech? Is of gem origin at all? Why did Garnet have to burn it?
in the Off Colors title card you can see a white diamond torso with out arms. These would of course be where Yellow and Blue’s ships connect. In Lion 4: Alternate Ending we see a giant pair of pink legs, Pink diamond’s ship. Since different gem fusion is forbidden on homeworld, doyou think that the diamonds form some sort of mecha?
I know this probably isn’t important to the subject in this article but it bothered me when I saw it. In the bird thing Steven was in when he is holding the heaven beetle if you look above him there are gems or gem shaped items. Could this be the reason why there where so many bird things after Opal got steven?
this Theory had me thinking about another theory I just thought of maybe you’re right maybe they are very very smart and they knew that the corruption was bound to come but they also loved humanity so they know they couldn’t come back to Homeworld so maybe they had the power to shrink a giant Temple that they created before they became corrupted
i never noticed that the technology had been removed in the buddy’s book episode! Also have you read the art and origins book yet? There is a design in there of what the heaven beetle would have looked like in her uncorrupted form along with some animators notes which are spoilers “The Earth beetle! Steven learns to control his healing powers and manages to heal the Earth (and Heaven?) beetle who turn out to be very tiny gems. She is very quiet but very quick and very observant.” It’s on page 112 for reference
I wonder why the crystal gems felt the need to capture it especially since the earth beetle would not be of much use bcuz of the history behind it to the diamonds. Now to think about it I wonder if white diamond’s sapphire new everything that was going to happen and white diamond sits back to see how everything plays out or she doesn’t care to intervene with things that happen on earth.
Since the gem is so small maybe the gems uncorrupted form is also small so maybe the heaven beetles house is suppose to be like small to fit them perfectly when they weren’t corrupted. Also wanted to add the fact that these gems have a whole place dedicated to them so maybe they were scholars. Also the tiny stuff can be for the gems comfort.
I feel like I have figured out the breakdown of the corruption light and how all there powers come together and corrupt gems. Yellow diamond power has been shown to destabilize a gems form and we know corrupted gems do not have the same form as they did before. We have seen blue diamonds power in action she can mess with or make others feel her emotions to a physical level and that can make the corrupted gems emotions unstable and aggressive. Now we have no idea what and how white diamonds power works; but based on theory she can manipulate the minds of gems. If this is true she could wiper the memories of all gems that was hit by the corruption light. This a simple breakdown of how I think the corruption light works.
what if the beetles didnt make any of that, what if the gems knew of this gem area and created that living space for it, not disrupting it as it isnt hostile. the more modern stuff could possibly but contributed by amethyst, who would find it amusing to give a beetle a backpack and tiny game console. theres no evidence that any of the electrical devices work, so they could just be aesthetic. pearl and amethyst knew where to find the heaven beetle, meaning they had to have been to that structure before. so maybe they only got them to protect them from other, more dangerous, corrupted gems, like the one that ate it.
I have a theory. Cuts of gems that are poitier are stronger, but less resilient, maybe because of cleavage points. Tear-drop shaped gems with one big point like Lapis, Aquamarine, and Agate are pretty darn powerful. Lapis could evenly fight the gems plus Steven and Connie with a cracked gem on her back, and also made a two gem fusion(Malachite) even with a four gem fusion(Alexandrite). Aquamarine, being a newer gem, could subdue Alexandrite and all of the captives. Agate has an electric whip, making it somewhat clear that she commanded over the famethyst. Even though they are strong, they aren’t “Strong in the real way.” Lapis cracked by being stepped on. Aquamarine was pinned to the wall by Topaz with ease. Agate toppled over from Garnet’s regular fist. The diamonds are also very powerful, and they have four points. They can poof gems in an instant just with the flick of a wrist, or a poke. Heck, they can drop a corruption bomb. Literally a wave of emotional torture. Again though, they are not as resilient. Pink was shattered with a simple SWORD. Real diamonds can be completely shattered with the hit of a hammer, they may be strong, but not tough. Gems like Pearls and Peridots haven’t been shown to crack, even stated by Peridot herself after falling, and falling, and falling. They don’t have any points at all! They also aren’t meant to use the small fighting capabilities they have. Peridot can’t even summon a weapon! The only reason why pearl can is because she is much older and was made in an era of abundance.
Since we will probably never get answers now that Peridot has been reduced to side character status (lol) I think a theory on her would be kind of cool. There are some really strange things about her that I never really see anyone point out. Like she depended way too much on her limb enhancers and if she was just made to be short then why would she feel so self conscious about that? Also her assumptions that everything was weapons earlier on was weird. I get she had recently been hunted down by the crystal gems but it is still interesting. Also little things like the fact she’s never taken her visor off or how she seemed to know just how intimidating Jasper was. Just random suspicious things. Peridot seemed like she should’ve been in charge of the mission but Jasper took total control. Jasper was even said to be an escort so what happened to make Peridot suddenly be not much more than a pilot when it came to what went down on the ship? There’s also the fact that she has metal powers but never knew about them even though if a gem made with dwindling resources has useful powers like that they should be informed about that. I know I’m looking too far into this but now that my favorite character has become a comic relief/filler character for most of the time, I’ve just really wanted to know more things that the creators of the show never got around to explaining.
I think the beetle “corrupted gems” are considered corrupt because of their cut, a really complex one. The other gems are cut into basic shapes that are akin to gem trade and gemstone setting. Gems, when formed naturally, are ugly crystal masses until cut. I think the “corrupted” beetle gems are not truly corrupted, but exceptionally strange gems because of their complex cut. The heaven one, like the earth one, is cut to simulate an Earth creature, so it makes sense that the heaven one would want to simulate intelligent Earth life or live like one.
WOAH, IDEA!! Maybe they were two paired Crystal Gems, enjoyed Roses intrest in humanity- maybe if you think they were corrupted before she was intrested- then yeah! Maybe she visited their home and showed them all sorts of human things, allowing them to recreate it? Please read into this! I really like this idea!
This is just a quick thought but, in the Bismuth episode, didn’t she mention something about building spires/towers for ‘thinkers to think in’? Doesn’t the heaven beetle’s residence look like a spire/tower? Whatever the ‘thinker’ type gem may encompass, I believe the heaven/earth beetles could have had that role during their uncorrupted states.
The fact that they created the objects of the house is interesting, but when you think of it,it would definitely make more sense that it’s because of their ability (shrink like you said or maybe even duplicate an object and make it come in another size etc.) I mean the bed,the carpet,it makes sense. The article games is a bit harder to believe but considering that they are gems (with their technology,…) I’m ok with it.But the books .You’re telling me that they wrote them? This is possible, but very unlikely. Now what makes me believe that they didn’t built it is the plants .You can see at the windows a cactus,a flower and some other pot plant. Now this is impossible according to your theory,so I’m gonna go for the shrinking (or other) ability (I think they shrunk (or copy and shrunk) the entire house, which would explain the fan…). I just wanted to clear that up cause this bit bothered me ^^’ Apart from that I like your theory,I mostly think they were high-ranked too on homeworld, like some sort of rare, ancient and/or important gem who inspire respect.I agree with 6:21 SO that’s it.Sorry I just realized how long that comment was.Anyway your theory is cool and I agree with the most of it.You’re awesome, your theories too,and it’s rare to find good theorists like you on youtube 😉
In my theory,if the gem beetle can talk, they could find out who shattered(killed) pink diamond. About the bed: since they are corrupted some of thier active cells things(or whatever you call it anything thats like a wire),there activeness was like cut out and stuff. P.S sorry about the sentences, its just hard to say it.
I don’t know if you guys remember but in Adventures in Light Distortion, when Steven was switching the gem size calibration in the Ruby’s Ship there was a very small size. Could there be very, VERY small gems similar to the Heaven and Earth beatles? Please like so SliceofOtaku can see it so he can talk about it.
or MAYBE, they were both stratigist gems brought to earth during the war and just took forms of the smallest animals they could find so that they wouldn’t be found by the diamonds or have to leave when the war was over so they could live the life they want like how the crystal gems do and they were never corrupted, but since they’re super smart the gems saw them as a threat since they’re loyalties are questionable
There are elements in early SU episodes that don’t fully fit the cannon. I think some details were not fully fleshed out in concept and only served as flavor for setting or minor plot vehicles. (The monster in together breakfast comes to mind) I think this is the case with the beetles, but enough was left open that they can be made relevant again if the writers wanted to. If they did, your explanation of the beetles being super smart would be a good conclusion to come to to not disrupt the cannon.
u need to here this slice of otaku,i have evidence leading tho the gems actual size, remember when Steven was messing around the this motherboard in light distortion and the gems start taking various sizes u notice in one of the forms they take are very small, smaller then any gem we have seen, and infact this gem that we are discussing has a cut very small that is very proportional to the size off this form so this must be how small hey are
I HAVE A THEORY so in the last episode blue zerkon stated that one of the diamonds shattered pink diamond But did you know that the only thing that can break a diamond is another diamond Now people think its yellow that shattered her because her guilty face and the reaction of the pearls As stated by eyeball, rose quartz shattered pink with her sword Howerver in the episode bismuth, bismuth states that the sword can only destroy the physical form on a gem I beleive that rose poofed pink with the sword and presented it to the other gem that can shatter a diamond- Another diamond But which one? To answer this question the mural in the episode ‘serious steven’ in the pyramid temple In this mural we can see three gems One is definitly rose quartz The other is greatly beleived to be white diamond The third one he on rose quartz is holding seems to be pink diamond Poofed She holds it in front of her Now, i think that the event this mural is depicting is the shattering of pink diamond by white diamond, as it look as if qhite diamond is about to strike the gem rose is holding Isnt it fascinating how one of the highest ranking gems out of all of them dint even attend the trial of the alleged shatter-er of pink diamond Its almost as if they dint want to become a suspectwhen all the evidence starts to point to them Its also a theory that white diamond has the power of whiping memorys She could easily cover it up Yellow diamond probably already knows that white did it and got really nervous when blue zircon said that one of the diamons did it.
I think they may both be beryls (like Aquamarine and Morganite). Beryls are classified as high ranking and intellectual gems probably just below diamonds. They would have enough individual rank and power in homeworld society to have at least two lower ranking gems (such as two topazes or a pearl and ruby) at their personal disposal. I’m not sure about the Earth beetle yet, but I firmly believe that the Heaven Beetle is actually a Heliodor Beryl (and I’m not just saying that because the initials match up). Heliodors in real life are a gem which represents knowledge and enlightenment like SoO points out in this article.
What is so “impossible” about shrinking wires exactly? I think the shrinking theory makes the most sense. Besides, who says HB could’t a) run the fan using gem power b) hook it up to a solar/water/wind device, this is going off the ‘HB is a genius theory’ or c) just have it for decoration? Mainly, fans are very simple machines and if this beetle is smart enough to play article games, they shouldn’t have a problem with some simple wire hookups.
that house looks like a doll house. And the bigger part looks like a temple. so maybe humans found them and started worshipping them and put them in special little houses to make them feel special or something like that that could be a distant possibility they don’t think the beetle needs that big of a temple to surround it
The small gems in Adventures In Light Distortion are obviously aquamarine dude. Also Chrysoprase is a type of Quartz, and those gems are definetly not quartzes. My theory is that these gems are Emeralds. I think this because they’re very small bugs, and Aquamarine is very small and has bug-like resemblances. Emerald being the green variant of Beryl, while Aquamarine is the aqua variant.
well i think.. that maybe they were overseers of earth.. and very high up on the gem hirarchy… and possibly would get there orders right from a diamond.. however as we know pink dimond pretty much sat back and was bored.. so most likely they reported to either yellow or blue or one of there underlings the fact that they are treated with upmost respect is possibly due to the fact that they joined the crystal gems…
Theory: If they are the smartest, why not have them in place of zircon! They would be perfect for a court because they are smart and if they are that smart they could easily become detectives and figure out who did the shattering or anything else like that. UNLESS there is a reason why there not! Maybe since they were so smart they realized “Hey this diamond authority is unfair and the crystal gems are better!” so they shattered pink diamond using their intelligence before covering it up with intelligence saying it was rose quartz then they left to join the crystal gems. They then proceeded to fight in the war then got corrupted like alot of other gems so they made their home.
so I decided to look up the actual properties of Chrysoprase to see if it matches with the theory and I found this Chrysoprase is one of the birthstones for May and has traditionally symbolized happiness, enterprise and prudence. It is a powerful stone that brings good fortune and prosperity. It instills you with poise, grace and helps you to recognize the gentle beauty within yourself so you can enjoy self-expression and courage through fluent speech and mental dexterity. Mentally, chrysoprase encourages non-judgmental attitudes, can reduce superiority and inferiority complexes and help you avoid speaking out unthinkingly in anger. It bolsters clarity of thought and creativity by attracting abundance and success in new ventures and promotes fidelity within business. Emotionally, chrysoprase is said to help heal a broken heart by providing a gentle boost to your self-esteem, equalizing emotional balance and fostering acceptance of change and tolerance for others. I think a lot fo this would apply well with this theory so I fully agree with this gem name
I think the heaven and earth beetles are smart because of their size. If you look at the crystal gems the smallest gem size, we see their heads are bigger than their bodies. This could mean one thing. Their bodies small but in that head, it has a big smart brain. Usually normal human heads aren’t as big as their torso. So that concludes the reason the gems seem so smart. But that’s just a theory, a SU theory! Thanks for reading.
Building on this, what if they were meant to be a fusion. If one had the ability to break things down and develop an understanding of how things worked, and the other could use that knowledge to create, as a fusion they would be invaluable. Perhaps they were so accustomed to fusion that as soon as they were forced apart they became corrupted? Idk
Just thought of something. Did yellow diamond shatter pink diamond because she was jealous. Was yellow diamond secretly angry at pink diamond for stealing away blue diamond. It would explain why she wants blue to get over her and why she wants to destroy the earth so that things can go back to the way they were. It’s a perfect parallel to pearl and greg, and what it would be like if pearl let her jealousy get the best of her. Even now yellow recognizes her mistake. She misses pink but “What’s the use of feeling blue?”
she could have shrunk the whole building at once and then proceed to shrink things it wants as time went on and bring it into the building. I don’t think the the ceiling fan means the ONLY possibility is that she made it all. But i do agree with the overall theory, i just disagree with it being the only explanation.
So I have a question about where Steven found the beetle in the first place. There was a crazzzzzy amount of bubbled gem inside that caterpillar/worm thing that Steven was in, but I haven’t seen anyone mention anything about it? When Peridot bubbled her first gem, Steven said it was going home and it ended up popping up inside Peri and Lapis’ barn. That centipede thing had HUNDREDS of bubbled gems… But who bubbled them? Why are they popping up inside of this monster that seems to be guarding the heaven beetles’ home? Could it be that she was only recently corrupted, and was out bubbling gems on missions just like the crystal gems before being corrupted??? Im soooo curious
I figured it was an illusion, the room seemed very Steven-esk. as the viewer his persona effected what he saw. so i figured the gem was a Spy gem trying to deceive the viewer to fit in and blend with the viewer in this case, Steven. as a small gem this would be a good defense mechanism bond and get to understand your foe. but i do like your theory.
Who’s to say that these things work especially quickly, there are definitely some insects on earth that if scaled up would move much faster than a cheetah, so the argument of these guys would necessarily be quite slow isn’t an the specially valid one, and even if they are, they probably have some means of hiding themselves aside from their small size, combine that with their ability basically reverse engineer anything they touch and they have pretty good means of studying humans all across the globe, and aeons don’t especially matter to them given the fact that they are literally immortal. And see why the crystal gems would be both scared witless and give them a decent degree of respect, if you’re correct.
Well then u could say that the geode Beatles abilities were adaption to the environment, or at least technology, of the civilization that they are currently in. I also had a funny thought of the Beatles being bug-college professors teaching ants how to read… it would at least explain the book and backpack lol
i think they are clear quartzes!!! i though there wound just be one omfg! it makes sense! they are known as master healers(the acual crystals in the spiritual sense) because they’re supposed to strengthen other crystals! they went on that quest just to get them together! you cant strengthen another gem when yourn nowhere near it! IDK IT JUST MAKES SENSE TO ME OK?
Ok so what if Heavens beetle was actually a crystal gem who was a friend of the gems and in love with the earth beetle and both of them had grown fond of earthly items such as beds, plants, books and architecture that when they became corrupted, the crystal gems wanted to give them the human items they enjoyed so the made tiny versions of the things they loved for creature comforts. As for why they were separated they probably needed 2 types of environments to survive in the corrupted form. I believe garnet recognized the forbidden love of the 2 gems and she saw herself in them and had been working all this time on trying to recreate a place in the gem vault where they could live together again. I say that because we’ve never seen the 2 gems again in the gem vault. So maybe just maybe garnet moved them to a special chamber where they could live together again.
Or… before she was corrupted this was her home. When she was corrupted went back home and shrank it and everything in and around it. Including the electric wires and stuff that would make the fan and tv work. And what if they are just shape shifting to be beetles. Then that would explain how they get around so easily.
This would explaim why emeralds escape pod is so similar to a car. They must of sent heaven beatles to earth and other planets to copy their technology so when they sent some heaven beatles to earth, the heaven beatles saw cars and made it exactly like it. The only problem is its a modern car and i dont think they would send gems to earth in the modern day. Especally after the gem war and if heaven beatles are that important, that would not be a good idea. There might be lots of them since theyre so tiny which would be a reason to send them to earth because if they die there are plenty more but idk.
What if the gems needed the beatles to bring rose back? The heaven beatle has all the shattered or physicaly dead dna and gem stone, and can bring them back to life, while the earth beatle plans their death, life, and future! Or maybe there is 3 of these gems, past present, and future. These beatles could be gem gods, a figur that only comes around to save, plan, and or restore a gems life. Rose could come back to life and start over, keeping all of her memories, and saving steven from his death caused by homeworld taking him for a shatering. That just poped up on my head so dont mind me! XD edit: sorry auto correct spelt beetles wrong for some odd reason…
I don’t think they’re corrupted gems at all. They’re animal like yes, but not monsterous like corrupted gems, and they don’t seem to have the intelligence of a corrupted gem, like when the centibeetle mother realized Steven meant it no harm and shrunk down to a less threatening form. These two just kind of behave like real bugs. I think these two are possibly another gem experiment, an attempt to create a hybrid of organic/gem life. Or maybe they are a native fauna from homeworld, since it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not gem animals do or do not exist on homeworld. I think they’re something closer to the flowering moss Rose Quartz helped to bloom, which had small gems in the center of every flower.
Thought’s while perusal article: 1:28 Looking at the two Gems I find they could be different colors just as all the pearls we have seen have been a different color. 1:53 All corrupted gems we have seen have green tints so I find it makes sense that corruption turns a gemstone green :|… 2:14 not in the budget to color a small portion lighter… I doubt it :T… 2:50 I find that most of the Gems that are corrupted use to be crystal gems. I find home world caused this at the very end of the war (like an atomic bomb for gems I guess) 3:18 …..I hate you … 3:21 and it was stupid =.=… 4:33 . . . 4:51 AJUniverse made this theory and I’m not taking credit for it but I find it is more likely that Rose was talking to a diamond through that direct diamond line (the one Peridot used in that episode where she called yellow daimond a clod B) ) 5:41 I really doubt this because Lapis is a LAPIS LAZULI… not a diamond :T… And all people who work for the diamonds we have seen have the daimond logo on their outfit. (fun fact: All crystal Gems we have seen have a Star on there outfit which I find was used to differentiate themselves from homeworld during the war ( I know ruby and Sapphire don’t but Garnet does, which probably means that they fought as Garnet during the war))
Instead of being corrupted gems, I always figured that the geode beetles were fusion experiments being done by Rose, like Lion and the gem flowers from “Lars and the Cool Kids”. The show’s done almost nothing with the idea, but I imagine she was interested in if and how organic and gem life could be fused together and that this research is what allowed her to successfully create Steven.
Who even said that these beetles are corrupted gems in the first place? I think many of these theories rely too much on other theories instead of confirmed information.I theorise maybe the earth and heaven beetles are simply gem pets? Maybe that’s why they had a little house and were bubbled in pet like container instead of being poofed. But Idk why Garnet made it an obligation to go look for them in the first place when they seemed so harmless.

Any questions? You may share this dare with friends X3
Hmmm well I dont think the beetles are actually gems that we would know of or can predict what they are yet- But one thing I thought was more interesting that you didn’t mention, was the the heaven beetle, had its own living space, presumably made from someone else (considering most corrupted gems arent very cognoscente) so this makes me think that the temple for the beetle was made before the war, meaning the gem was corrupted before the war. Perhaps its like lapis where their powers can be used when attached to a host, only this time they were attached to organic matter instead of a mirror? Who knows.
well there is also the fact that this was the episode which introduced us to fusion in the first place. And if this is true and all other Diamonds are on earth too then this could be another reason why Yellow Diamond wants earth to be gone. It’s the glareing prove that Diamonds aren’t unbeatable. However, this would suggest that all other Diamonds are fusions too but Yellow doesn’t have any indications for this, the fact that we never saw more then one gem for any of the Diamonds. It’s also to note that both have the gem at the same location, their back, this are two facts that help debunking this, 1. We never saw two gems with the same gem location fuse, you can argue that maybe their gem location was different when they weren’t corrupted but we still need evidence for this and even if, their location wouldn’t be that drastical different which brings me to fact 2. Blue Diamond has her Gem on her chest. It’s also not clear if they truely are the same Gem, sure the gems look identical but there are lot’s of gem’s which look almost identical but are very different in nature and then there is the fact that same gem fusion doesn’t creat something new, they are just a bigger version of the same thing, which is the reason why there weren’t any permanent fusions before, so why would Garnet insist on having them in the same bubble? Fusion doesn’t have the same meaning for them as it does for her after all, they should be able to exist on their own without problems after all, exept if it does.
I think the Beetles were the original Permafusion, or maybe one of the first. The title of “geode” is a clear representation of their status as a former fusion, since geodes are no more than shells with a interior composed by layers of various minerais (a.k.a. a “fusion” of minerals). They seemed to have some kind of close relationship with Garnet, since she wanted to retrieve them no matter what. I wonder if they used to be Garnet’s “mentor”, who taught her how to live as a fusion, and fight as one? Cause i think her fighting style could only be mastered with hundreds (maybe thousands) of years of experience and hard training, and Rose didn’t had the time for that, as she was already Pearl’s Master, and was occupied with the war.
There is acorrupted gem that seems more plot relevant that’s been foreshadows. The heaven and earth beetles are intriguing, but they’ve never actually foreshadowed anything, yet at least, where as the shooting star gem has. It shows up in monster buddies and then again during one of stevens future visions during future vision. The gems were using it as some kind of explosive to destroy the warp pad which may foreshadow another gem that’s used as a weapon to destroy something, possibly the cluster, but also possibly the explosive that destroyed all or corrupted all the crystal gems save for Rose and her crew.
Here’s what I think: There are other types of gem organisms that are not just humanoids like the gem’s diamond authoritarian culture. I think this because we saw crystal shrimp on the sea spire, and I’m sure they’re not just children of corrupted gems like the crab monster’s and the centipeedle’s, these beetles must have been some sort of sacred bug that keeps balance somehow over some thing, like it works in all sorts of lore. You know, like legendary pokemon lol.
